Are you looking for ways to turn your backyard into your own private sanctuary? Perhaps you want to transform your private outdoor area into something fabulous – an area that represents who you and your family really are. If you are looking to overturn your outdoors, we’ve put together 5 simple ways that you can reinvigorate your backyard.
Build your own fire pit
A fire pit is a welcome addition to any backyard. It can add light after dark and warmth on a cool night, and is a natural bug repellent. It’s perfect for outdoor cooking, and doubles up as a makeshift cocktail table.
Adding a fire pit isn’t costly, but it does require an area cleared of trees and other plants. To be safe, keep the lawn mowed, and fill the centre of the fire pit with dirt, sand or pebbles. Use larger rocks, cinder blocks, or stones to build a circle around the fire pit, and be sure to keep sticks, additional firewood, and plants away from the flame.
Grow your garden
Want to add colour and a little decoration to your backyard? Invest in some lush plants. If you have the space (and time) for a garden, you can slash the nursery bill by growing your own plants. Flowers, vines and bushes are also fabulous (incredible-smelling) additions to any backyard.
Mood lighting
There are many ways to bring soft, gorgeous light to a backyard. To set the mood (and deter bugs), opt for small candles or lanterns, or a string of outdoor lights. Place the lights away from the main table, or burn citronella to keep the creepy-crawlies away.
Sort out your seating
When it comes to outdoor seating, you’re limited only by your creativity. If you’re planning to spend a lot of time entertaining and relaxing in your backyard, seating is super important. And if there are too many trees in the way? A possible solution is to cut some with a chainsaw, and you’ll have several backyard seats. Just be sure to double-check council restrictions before you fire up any tools and start landscaping!
Increase privacy
There are many ways that you can increase the privacy of your backyard with a little simple landscaping. For example, add your own decorative touch to an outdoor wall or fence with an outdoor decorative screen or panel. Bamboo is a popular choice that provides a holiday vibe. Perhaps you have a green thumb and feel like trying something a little more challenging? How about creating a vertical living wall. It looks good, is healthy for you to breathe in and it serves as a great privacy barrier.
Whatever the reason you have to overturn your outdoors, make sure that you implement a design that reflects who you are. If greenery is important to you, make that a feature. If you want to enjoy toasting marshmallows by the fire, then make a fire pit the centrepiece. After all, you’re the one that will be in your backyard the most!
